What this isSliderDecider is a quick decision tool: slide six dials to describe the task you're about to hand an AI, and it recommends the cheapest format and model that will actually get it done — plus a rough idea of what that will cost in tokens or dollars.

Do I get charged every time I send a message?
On a subscription seat (ChatGPT Plus/Team, Claude Pro/Team): no surprise fees — you have a usage allowance that resets on a cycle. Hitting 85% means you're near a temporary cap, not a bill. Per-token dollar charges only apply to API/developer accounts. Know which one you're on before worrying about cost.
Why did I burn through my allowance so fast?
Every new message re-reads the entire chat so far — so one long chat with big files attached costs more per message the longer it runs. Frontier models (Claude Fable 5.1, GPT-6 Astra) can consume substantially more metered usage than lighter defaults, depending on the product and workload. Stretch your allowance: start fresh chats for new topics, ask for a hand-off summary when a chat gets long, and keep frontier models for the genuinely hard passes.
Should I move my project to the other provider's "smarter" model?
Almost never mid-project. Switching providers loses your accumulated context — files, decisions, the tracking file itself — and that re-explaining costs more than any model gap saves. Instead, switch models inside the same provider: run routine updates and summaries on an efficient workhorse tier (Sonnet 5 / GPT-6 Sol) and only invoke the frontier tier for hard reasoning passes. File review + summaries is squarely workhorse-tier work.
Can both tools make Excel/Word/PowerPoint files?
Yes — both. Claude and ChatGPT can each read uploaded spreadsheets and generate .xlsx/.docx/.pptx deliverables. File creation is not a reason to migrate; pick the tool that already holds your project context.
When does a job outgrow a chat window entirely?
When it needs to connect multiple services, run many steps, or touch lots of files — think "build a platform" or a repo-wide refactor. That's agentic-tool territory (Claude Code, Cowork, or an API workflow): budget it in sessions, not messages, and expect frontier-tier burn.
